Overview
This book is a theological/apologetics/faith-filled work of art by Preston Perry. It is packed with knowledge, insight, quotes, and scripture that comes from some-one who has learned to walk and live with God and knows His mercy.
Key themes throughout this book are:
– We have ALL been called to be disciples. ANYONE can and should be an evangelist.
– Apologetics
– The way you tell the Gospel is equally important as what you say.
– Apologetics
– How evangelism can look like to both strangers and family.
“If God can use the willingly disobedient, he can use our best efforts. God can use anything”
My Thoughts
The Morning Cruise (Joy FM radio) mentioned this book on their show, so I bought it. For some reason, I thought it was going to be about telling the truth and not lying, which was strange, but they usually recommend good books, so I decided to give it a chance. NO, it is about telling THE TRUTH. The Gospel. And OH, it is GOOD! Perry talks about evangelism and the importance of discipleship in plain language. He breaks down the importance of listening more than speaking, being a seed planter, a disciple in how we act and represent Christ, and how to be bold. Perry also breaks down some key differences between Christianity and other religions that you can use to teach your faith.
There were several moments reading this book when my soul cried out YES! I needed to read this book. It hit many topics I have wondered and worried about in my faith. I often wonder if I am not preaching on the street corner or a missionary in another country, am I really doing my part to promote God’s Kingdom? However, Perry makes it clear we do not need a platform to speak the Gospel. We only need to be willing to obey God when he calls us. Another topic Perry covers is fear and how not to be a coward. Sounds harsh, but he points out that we have a sovereign God. Nothing happens by chance, only by His will. I don’t want to tell all the good parts in this book (there are honestly too many), I encourage you to read it for yourselves.
Would I recommend it?
An overwhelming YES. It is thought-provoking, and Perrys passion for evangelism and discipleship is inspiring and motivating. I will buy 2 more copies of this to give my teenagers to read. I cannot recommend this book enough. Buy it, read it, and have a highlighter ready because you will want to revisit Perrys work again!
